
THE Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) recently organised the Residents’ Representative Council (MPP) Shah Alam/ PeBT Sports Championship as part of its efforts to foster closer ties among the local community. The participants comprised all 24 MPP Zones under the MBSA’s administration. The championship is aimed at fostering a healthy lifestyle and encouraging a sporting culture among Shah Alam folks, in addition to encouraging them to actively participate in sports and recreation. The event was also a platform to foster a mutual relationship and unite the multi-racial and multi-cultural people in the city.Fostering community ties: Sepak takraw was among the categories featured in the MBSA’s MPP Shah Alam/ PeBT Sports Championship. A total of seven sports were featured in the competition that started in May and ended in July 2010.
The MPP/ PeBT Zone 16 won the top spot in the netball category, while MPP/ PeBT Zone 10 and MPP/ PeBT Zone 7 came in second and third, respectively.
The first place in the sepak takraw category went to MPP/ PeBT Zone 10, followed by MPP/ PeBT Zone 18 and MPP/ PeBT Zone 12 in second and third place respectively.
MPP/ PeBT Zone 20 were crowned champions in the tug of war category; the second and third spots went to MPP/ PeBT Zone 6 and MPP/ PeBT Zone 5 respectively.
The MPP/ PeBT Zone 6 also won the top spot in the men’s volleyball and women’s volleyball.
The other sports categories were carrom and chess, with a futsal tournament culminating the end of the championship.
The event is among the activities like gotong-royong programmes, sports carnival, health talk and festive celebrations organised by the MBSA to strengthen the MPP institution and its function.
